Project journal no. 13

Week 15, 2005

The Randers WG has been very busy preparing the model for Ljubljana. Since the workshop in Randers we have used the groupcare to finish the work with the model. Randers WG has been in charge of working the points in the model together. We sent the model by email to the Slovenian librarian Erika on the 31/3. – She has gone through the model, and so far, she is very pleased with our work. However the model is not totally finished. Corrections with be gathered and added to the final model.

Printed copies were sent to Helsingborg, Toledo and Ljubljana in week 14, we are looking foreward to get comments.

Ljubljana will begin to test the model in April and will keep us informed about their experiences.

In Randers we had the last user training nr 12- in week 15. The last class was 14 senior citizens who participated in “ Internet for beginners”.

The subjects we have been teaching, have been very different. We have had various classes from an adult education center (VUC). One of the classes was a special one for young adults with heavy social problems. This class we have had four times, and we think we have got a good insight in their backgrounds and way of thinking and behaving. We are going to the VUC this week to have a little chat with them , we want to use this informal conversation as a verbal evaluation of the sessions. They have seen our premises, now we are going to meet them in their own environment.

We have had a very good cooperation with the VUC teacher Hannah Nørgaard. We are very pleased that she is going to join our group for the conference in Slovenia. The young students from the VUC have had special needs for usertraining, so we have spent some time discussing how to solve these problems both between ourselves and at the library in general. We have indeed tried to get some new views on user training.

For the Ljubljana conference, we will be joined also by two collegues from Randers library with experience in user training.

It has been rather heavy to produce material and ideas for twelve user training sessions. We have been forced to develop new ideas and the internal discussions in our working group, and the talks with people in our community, have given many interesting inputs.
