Project journal no. 9

Week 8, 2005

In Toledo we are dedicated fullly to the implementation of the project TUNE with our first user training sessions.

We initiated the collaboration with the Adult Persons Education Centers (the CEPAs) of the city of Toledo and, after several interviews with directors and teachers of the mentioned centers, we thought that we could direct our training sessions to groups of different levels of education: adults whit little or not education, students of secondary education and students in courses to access to higher education.

The cycle of sessions has been initiated this week, dividing the sessions into two parts, of two hours each one.
The first session was dedicated to showing the library and its services as cultural center of the community, and the managing of the OPAC, as center of access to the information. We worked two librarians with the participants, helping them with the computers to do the practical exercises after the explanations.
In the second session, dedicated to the information sources, we did an introduction with a summary of the most important sources, both in paper and in electronic format, and basic notions of the structure of each one, its managing and usefulness, all based on practical examples.

The group which we have begun the sessions are students of secondary education of CEPAs. They came 9 of 10 persons to the sessions. In a small survey of evaluation that we delivered at the end of the second session, they said to be very satisfied with the received formation, and most of them thought that the contents were very interesting and that they should like to have a longer training.

We are very satisfied with the good reception of the training offer in the CEPAs. The participants were not users of the library before the training, but when the sessions finished they all got the library card and they told us their intention of using more the library from now.

After this first session we are very excited to receive the groups that will come next week (we will have four groups!) and we hope that everything goes out so well like till now.
